Morning comes in off the water. White shiplap, linen at the window, an olive tree. Pistoia sits low and long, on four wooden wedges.
Three seats. Two cushions. Round at every corner.
Pistoia is 82.75 inches wide and only 27 inches high. The back is one tight panel. The arms are thick and round, almost as tall as the back, and they close the seat in at each end.
At each corner a wooden wedge meets the arm. The soft body sits in the wood like a cushion in a hand.
Each foot is a slim blade along the end of the arm that spreads into a flat wedge on the floor. From the front, the sofa looks lifted, not planted.
SketchFinished
Move the slider to see the drawing beside the finished sofa.
The line follows the curve of the arms down to the wedge at each corner.
Thick, soft arms, nearly as high as the back. The ends are flat and rounded.
A slim blade hugs the arm, then flares into a flat foot. Wood, in a walnut finish.
Pistoia is covered in boucle: a nubby, looped fabric with a sherpa-like feel. Almond is oatmeal with grey-brown flecks. Beige is a clean ivory. Olive Green is deep and flecked with black.
The feet are wood in a walnut finish. The seat is foam on sinuous springs.
Almond, Beige or Olive Green. The fabric covers the whole body: arms, back, base and cushions.
The two seat cushions are removable, for easier cleaning.
A sinuous spring seat under foam cushions, for support and durability.
Up close, the boucle is a field of small loops in two tones. They catch the light, so the colour shifts a little from cushion to arm.
Two seat cushions, 63.5 inches across together and 22.25 inches deep. Room to sit back or tuck your feet up.
Four wedges carry the sofa. Each rises as a slim blade along the arm, then spreads into a flat foot on the floor.
A small centre foot sits under the middle of the base, out of sight. Pistoia arrives in two boxes and goes together at home.
Taupe panelling, a brass lamp, a herringbone floor. The boucle glows in the lamplight.
Limestone, jute and the Rockies beyond the glass. Almond turns warm in the late sun.
At 82.75 inches wide and 32 deep, Pistoia fills a living-room wall without towering over it. The back stays low, so it can also float in an open room.
Almond is warm and neutral. Beige keeps a room bright. Olive Green gives it a deeper note.
Check the doorway first. The larger box is about 76 × 25 × 18 inches (Almond) or 74.5 × 22.5 × 20.5 inches (Beige, Olive Green).
Two cushions, a tight back, rounded arms and four wooden wedge feet.
