At home

Seven feet of pale oak.

A Kootenay Lake house near Nelson. Board-formed concrete, a white-oak ceiling and caramel leather chairs around a Biscotti Oak top.

The Frontino story

Two slabs and a soft top.

One long top. Two slab legs. Nothing in between.

The top is a soft boat shape. Every edge bows out a little, and the corners are rounded. The edge looks slim because it is bevelled away underneath.

Each leg is a wide slab of solid oak, set in from the end. It narrows in a curve toward the floor, and its grain runs straight up.

The design

Clean lines, soft edges.

Eighty-seven inches long and thirty-nine deep, on two slab legs set in from the ends. There is no stretcher, so chairs slide in anywhere along the sides.

The materials

Oak, in three finishes.

Frontino is made of oak and oak veneer, with solid oak legs. The Black finish also lists MDF.

Biscotti Oak is a pale, soft blond. Black is a deep black with the grain showing through. Honey Brown is a warm mid-brown.

Solid oak legs

Both slab legs are solid oak.

The detail

Get closer to the edge.

Apple tart at one end. The corner turns in a wide curve, and the edge is bevelled away underneath, so the top looks thin.

The grain runs the length of the top.

The base

Two slabs, nothing between.

From the end, each leg is one wide slab. Its sides curve gently inward toward the floor.

There is no stretcher and no rail, so the space under the top stays open.
